Summertime by the Lake

Summertime.... hhhmm what does that mean to you?  Laying by the pool, school break, vacations, summer heat, lemonade, cookouts.. Yes that is exactly what it means to me but also I think about what follows summertime.. cooler weather and then the snow.. My bones no longer like the colder weather. I am thankful to live where the summers seem to be longer.  I love the hot sun on my face and the wind blowing my curls.

As I get older in life, I tend to see summertime different as I did as a child.  I look it as longer days to get yard work done, cleaning out the garages, gardening, sitting outside on the front porch counting cars, breaking beans.  Yes I now count cars as I sit in my rocker and enjoy watching the sunrise and the sunset.  Oh what beauty God has painted for us all around.  I never really noticed these when I was younger.  All I was interested in was "What am I going to do today?"

Also, my taste have changed.  I love the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables in the summertime.  The taste of Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Strawberries... did I say Strawberries.  Everything seems to taste so much better in the summer.  Homemade ice-cream.. oh yeah! What is your favorite taste of summertime?

I love to hear the rains falling on the roof top and the smell of the fresh cut grass.  I love to see all the beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees blooming.  The smell after you have cleaned your house.  What is your favorite smell of summertime?

I love to hear the birds in the trees, the ducks flying over, the kitties as they ask me for food every morning.  What is your favorite sound of summertime?

I love to see the birds flying, the butterflies tasting the assorted flowers, the bees buzzing around the plants, the kitties playing in the fields, the deer grazing by the lake, the fish ripples of the water.  What do you like to see most in summertime?

Do you ever sit outside in the summertime and try to clear your mind? Do you ever have mindless thoughts?  I like to think what it would be like to be a bird, soaring over the fields and lake... I love to sit outside and just try to think about anything but to be thankful for what I have.  What are you thankful for in the summertime?
