Because if I'm being honest — and I always am — worry is one of those things that doesn't discriminate. It sneaks up on the littlest ones AND the most seasoned grown-ups. And it can feel paralyzing.
Little Finn the fox is a worrier. In our newest Little Paws, Big Lessons Short on Faith Fire Focus, Finn worries about picnics and berry bushes and whether the big kids will let him play — and then the biggest storm of his life rolls in and everything comes to a head.
But Grandma Fox had planted something in him. A simple truth:
"When you don't know what to do, Finn — talk to the One who does."
So in the middle of all that thunder and lightning, Finn folded his little paws. And he prayed five honest words: "I'm scared. And I trust You."
The storm didn't stop. But something inside Finn did.
Teaching Children to Pray Without Performance
One of the most important things we can teach our children is that prayer doesn't require perfect words, a perfect posture, or a perfect heart.
Philippians 4:6 says "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Notice it says every situation. Not just the big ones. Not just the Sunday ones.
Finn's five words — "I'm scared. And I trust You" — are a template any child can use. And honestly? Any adult too.
Questions to open the conversation after watching:
- What is something that worries YOU sometimes?
- Did you know you can tell God when you're scared?
- What would you want to say to God right now?
Let's raise a generation of children who run TO God in the storm — not away from it.
