Airlines, TSA, and cruise security all have strict guidelines about what belongs in a checked bag versus a carry-on. 6 Things You Should NEVER Put in Your Checked Bag

Here are the six items that should always travel with you in your carry-on or personal item — never in your checked luggage:

  2. Electronics and Chargers — Laptops, tablets, cameras, and their chargers should stay in your personal item. Electronics are fragile and valuable — checked bags are not exactly handled with care.
  3. Jewelry and Valuables — Never check your fine jewelry, cash, or any high-value items. Keep them close and keep them safe.
  4. Travel Documents — Your passport, boarding pass, travel insurance, and itinerary should always be on your person. Period.
  5. Lithium Batteries and Power Banks — These are actually prohibited in checked luggage by most airlines due to fire risk. Always pack them in your carry-on.
  6. A Change of Clothes — Always tuck one outfit into your carry-on. If your checked bag is delayed, you will be so grateful you did.
