Page, Arizona sits about 130 miles north of the Grand Canyon, straddling the Arizona-Utah border on the edge of the Navajo Nation. And it is, without question, one of the most visually dramatic places I have ever seen.
WHAT MAKES PAGE SPECIAL?
Page is the gateway to several bucket-list worthy natural wonders that most tourists fly right past on their way to more famous destinations. The slot canyons here — Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon — are among the most photographed in the world for good reason. Light filters through the narrow canyon walls in beams that look almost supernatural. The colors shift from orange to red to purple depending on the time of day and the season.
Then there is Horseshoe Bend — a nearly 360-degree bend in the Colorado River that sits just a short walk from the highway. No Grand Canyon bus tour. No crowds of hundreds. Just you, the rim, and a view that will make you feel very small and very grateful at the same time.
And Lake Powell. Do not sleep on Lake Powell. Created by the Glen Canyon Dam, this reservoir stretches across the Utah border and offers houseboat rentals, water sports, and red rock canyon views that feel genuinely surreal.
WHO IS PAGE FOR?
Page is an ideal destination for road trippers, slow travelers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking the kind of landscape that puts life in perspective. It is very accessible — the drive from Phoenix is roughly four hours and the terrain, while dramatic, requires no special fitness level to enjoy. For travelers over 60, this is one of the best domestic destinations available. The scale is awe-inspiring without being physically demanding.
A WORD ABOUT INTENTION
Page is not a resort town. It is not trying to be. The restaurants are casual. The accommodation is comfortable but unpretentious. And honestly? That is the whole point. This destination rewards the traveler who shows up ready to be moved by something bigger than a buffet line or a swim-up bar.
Come for the canyons. Stay for the perspective.
